Mandate Access

Fintech | Mobile | Compliance-Led | Live

0Annual requests digitised

Granting a partner access to the access bond on a joint home loan used to mean a branch queue or a call centre hold, to authorise something on an account you already own. Mandate Access moves the whole thing into the app, with a status the customer can actually see.

15–20Minutes per branch visit — designed out entirely
10Months of combined design work
LiveiOS and Android

Senior Product Designer

Discovery, journey mapping, user flows, technical feasibility and wireframing across every mandate scenario. On a project this regulated the role runs well past craft.

  • Discovery & Journey MappingMapped the branch and call centre process in full, and put the customer cost of it in front of the stakeholders who had stopped noticing it.
  • Flows & Technical FeasibilityDesigned flows for new applications, revocations, pending verifications and status tracking.
  • Wireframing & Cross-Functional AlignmentWireframes covering consent, error states and edge cases, with working sessions that kept legal and compliance invested in the outcome.

CarX

Self-Initiated | Product Strategy | Mobile | AI-Assisted Build

2 weeksIdea to workable prototype

South Africa moves around 400,000 used cars a year. Any one of them can hide a Code 2 write-off, a rolled-back odometer, or outstanding finance — all matters of public record, none of it reachable by the person about to hand over the money.

5Screens designed and built as a workable prototype
6Vehicle history checks, each designed to pull from a South African source
End to endConcept, strategy, UX/UI and build

Self-initiated — concept, product strategy, UX/UI, prototype direction

The idea is my own: the market thesis, the six checks, the traffic-light system. The prototype was implemented with AI, which freed up the time to test whether the idea actually held up.

  • Market & Competitive ResearchTook apart CarVertical's model and its route into each market, and found its South African depth is thin on locally registered cars. The gap is not the business model. It is local data.
  • Defining the Local ChecksSix checks, each designed to pull from a South African source — eNaTIS, SAPS, SAIA — and matched to a real way buyers get caught out.
  • Verdict-First InterfaceA traffic light carries the outcome before a word is read, with progressive disclosure underneath — tap the Code 2 flag and it opens into incident date, insurer, odometer reading and a recommendation.

Further Advance / Re‑advance

Fintech | Self-Service Journey | Live Product | Design Systems

0 minFrom application to outcome, down from 5.2 days

A customer wanting more money against a home loan they already hold had one option: fill in a lead form and wait for a specialist to call. The bank already held everything it needed to decide. The brief was to close that gap with an end-to-end Straight Through Processing journey.

220Customers served per month
0Property specialist callbacks — removed from the journey entirely
8Months, discovery to handover

Senior Product Designer

End-to-end from discovery through to developer handover. Not a front-end redesign: it meant working closely with the process engineering team to map a workflow that had been running manually for years, then changing the services underneath it. MVP01 launched, and what its data showed is shaping MVP02, now in build.

  • Discovery & Full-Process MappingTime spent with the property specialists who worked these applications by hand, mapping the full front-to-back workflow in swim lanes before any screens existed.
  • Document Audit & Field RationalisationEvery field on the paper and phone applications rationalised: what had to be asked, what was asked twice, and what the bank already held. That is what made pre-population possible.
  • Design & IterationBuilt inside the bank's Digital Sales Platform design system and pushed past its edges. Straight Through Processing meant moving the services from Blaze to PowerCurve, with Legal, Risk and Compliance in the loop throughout.

WhatsApp Integration

Fintech | Conversational UX | Meta Compliance | Vendor Collaboration

0%Completion uplift

The bank's re-engagement ran on SMS and email, and both fired halfway through the application — long after the people who stalled had already gone. The question was whether WhatsApp could reach them at the moment they got stuck.

12Meta-approved conversation templates
2Drop-off points identified and targeted
3Months, a Proof of Concept concluded on schedule

Senior Product Designer

Two workstreams at once: the Digital Sales Platform redesign for new and existing customers, and WhatsApp as a proactive re-engagement layer. Journey analysis, segmentation, conversational UX, Meta policy compliance, and day-to-day work with the vendor.

  • Discovery & AnalysisMapped the as-is journey end to end, then went through the home loan application analytics page by page to find the two points where people actually stopped, backed up by usability testing so the finding carried both quantitative and qualitative evidence.
  • Segmentation & StrategyBuilt a model splitting new customers from existing ones, so each group got timing and content that suited them rather than one broadcast.
  • Conversational Design & ComplianceTwelve templates across reminder nudges, Voice of Customer feedback and check-ins, every one through Meta's Business Messaging Policy approval.

Design built
for the real
world.

15 years in the design industry, the last five in fintech, insurance and the public sector. Work that has to stand up to regulators, auditors and the people using it every day. I work at the intersection of research rigour, design craft and technical execution.

Currently Senior Product Designer at Freethinking, leading UX for home loans. The craft is still the job — CX, UX, UI — but the tools are changing, and so is the pace. I design with AI, and where there is the freedom to, I build real code-based prototypes, so an idea arrives as something you can use rather than something you have to imagine.

Based in Johannesburg.

Got a problem
worth designing?

Complex products. Regulated industries. High stakes. That's the brief I'm built for.
